Dear All,

After sending out a press release about the Monday meetup in the Lookout Cafe in The Project Climbing Centre next to Poole Central Library, the Stour & Avon Magazine Nov 13th 2015 printed an article on page 22 about the event.

There is also an online article here:

http://www.blackmorevale.co.uk/Extra-meeting-Poole-s-Men-s-Sheds-group/story-28121783-detail/story.html#1

I hope that it will help raise the profile of the group and that it will attract some new members along.

To UKMSA Members - Men’s Shed – The Dream?‏

Hi Everyone,

I have just learned that our new partner The Royal Voluntary Service (RVS), is considering putting in a joint bid with us to the new People’s Postcode Dream Fund. This is a major competition as the minimum bid is for £400,000 over 2 years and the maximum £1m. They say 'We are asking charitable organisations across Great Britain to think big, be ambitious and collaborate with other not-for-profit partners to deliver their dream project’.

RVS have sounded out the organisers and they have encouraged a bid in part because we already have a partnership in place.

We are expecting to have a conference call with RVS on Monday next. (17th August)

In the next couple of days we would be very keen to hear from you about what the dream project could be.

This could be 6-7 full time staff or equivalent to do regional Shed development work, or an amazing collaborative build that gets massive promotion for the Shed idea like a 50ft older man’s head, or a series of courses on starting and running a Shed for all, or a TV programme on what is different about men.

Dream on!

Best regards

Mike Jenn, Chair UKMSA

UK Mens Sheds - Dream‏

Hi Shedders,

UK Men's Sheds is putting together some ideas to form part of a 'funding bid' and I am forwarding the email with more details.

UKMSA is supportive association and they are looking to employ staff. The RVS is the old WVS and pledge to support UKMSA.

Our wish list would centre around premises but obviously the wider view would be more PR.

As short notice, I will reply but if you have any suggestions as what would be on your 'Wish List' let me know. by close Friday.

What's On Wednesday‏

Hi All,

Next Wednesday 5th Aug - things to do

Bird Nestboxes - Franco has made up some kits and if enough willing bodies we can have session putting them together. The Community Garden at Parkstone have asked for 6 and will make a donation to our club funds. We now have lots of design information for future reference.

Limelights - the ceiling beading in the art room (the one the Work Experience team did) needs fixing. Some looked at last week and needs couple of rawlplugs.

Unfortunately the garden in front of the building has been vandalised so may need some plants or replanting.

Poole Park 125 Event 2 Aug - This event went very well and there was lots of interest and possible new members will visit. One local man can no longer keep his garden and would like some help. May visit us but see what materialises.

Hope to see you soon,

Kind Regards Alan Hawkins.

What's On Wednesday‏

Hi Shedders,

Sorry this is rather lengthy but seems we are building up on projects and jobs in hand.

Chair weaving - now have 3 chairs - see Tony.

Drain repairs - Ongoing renovations to Limelights - see Graham if you can lend a hand.

Round Table - Ian has donated a rather nice table which needs some tidying work. Could be for Committee meetings?

Bird Table - brought in by lady for repair and suggested design for new one for sale.

Anyone available to take in hand to oversee work above items.

Poole Festival - 2nd August. and 19th September Celebration - Items needed for table top sale. Storage box in the garage.

Bird Boxes - Own use and for Turners Nursery. Clive has taken on making 5. We can do with some more see Clive for design

Outside Projects - We may have to turn some requests down.

  1. We have been asked if we can make up some picnic tables. - If wood is provided can anyone take this on?
  2. Also insect hotels - examples of these are on sale in ' This is it' or speak to Clive.

ALL bikes sold or spoken for so on the lookout for more. They seem to be a good fund raiser.

If you haven't order your Polo shirt and would like one see Howard or email your order.

Offer of Wood flooring - UK Men's Sheds Association - at the UK MSA meeting it was mentioned that B&Q (Midlands) have 9 pallets of soiled wood flooring but they will have to collected. This is being followed up by UK MSA to see if B&Q will deliver to a local store. IF they come back and will split them I will ask if 2 pallets can be delivered to POOLE. (I can arrange collection). Any advance on 2.

Visit to Eastleigh Men's Shed Open Day.

Alan & Anita Hawkins, & Keith Jarvis were invited to the official opening of the Eastleigh Men's Shed. Full details can be found on their website.

Wednesday 22nd April 2015.

Poole Men's Shed Walk.

With the pleasant Spring weather, several of us decided to go for a walk. So, after our regular Wednesday meeting we met up in Upton Country Park. Keith Jarvis and Alan Hawkins had agreed to lead the walk to inspect the area where they had found the remains of a 19th century canal, constructed to transport the clay from the local pits to Poole Quay.

We set off over the newly opened-up area of the park and crossed over the Blandford Road making our way down to the Nature Reserve at Lytchett Bay (access from Shore Lane).

Making our way back we passed under the rail bridges at Turlin Moor and admired the work of those 19th century builders then took the Roman Road back for tea at the Peacock Cafe.

Distance about 4 miles.

Walkers - Keith, Alan, Dave, Howard, Ian, and guest Terry.

Report by Alan Hawkins.
